A VITAL cog in a charity that helps youngsters with disabilities has stepped down from the committee.
Maryann Heads has taken the decision after 15 years of “invaluable service” as trustee, director and senior volunteer of TODYS, including a spell as treasurer and chairwoman.
Joan Bailey, from TODYS, said: “Known and respected by TODYS’ families in her role as learning disabilities nurse, she has nurtured all of the youngsters. With her knowledge and understanding of disability, along with her expertise particularly in behaviour management, she has over the years skillfully guided staff, volunteers and youngsters. Maryann has been a volunteer, year-on-year, on all of TODYS’ annual residential Calvert Trust activity breaks – even though she was expected to take full part in the water sports.
“Along with her learning disability nurse colleague Alex who also volunteers, Maryann was instrumental in the setting up of Hub Club, TODYS’ weekly youth club. Thankfully, Maryann has assured us that she will continue to volunteer for TODYS’ Hub Club “for the time being’.”
Youngsters thanked Ms Heads and presented her with gifts last month.
