Labyrinth proves popular with pupils at Green Lane

A SPACE to relax from the bustle of the playground has been enhanced by kindhearted volunteers.

Iris Hillery and Allan Jones, from St Mary’s Parish Church, in Barnard Castle, spent the summer painting a labyrinth for children at Green Lane Primary School.

The outdoor puzzle, designed to give pupils a chance to relieve stress, was unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony last week.

Acting headteacher Nic Linsley said: “It’s a nice reflection area where they can choose to come and have some quiet time away from the bustle of the playground.

“It’s really well used.”

Tucked away between the school’s buildings, the enclave was lying unused before the Green Lane Parent and Teacher Association stepped in with some multi-coloured benches for a relaxation area.

Ms Hillery and Mr Jones thought a labyrinth would complement the zone on the back of the puzzle’s success at St Mary’s.

The pair were gifted flowers from the school for their efforts.
