Barnard Castle Angling Club and TCR Hub join forces in bid to reel in young anglers

BARNARD Castle Angling Club has joined forces with the town’s TCR Hub to offer members carp fishing at the community complex’s ponds.

The club is hoping the partnership – which offers ten free fishing sessions for under 18s – will get the next generation of anglers hooked on the pastime.

Senior anglers are also offered a free session at the ponds so they can see what’s on offer if they have never fished at the Shaw Bank centre before.

To take advantage of the offers, anglers must have a valid membership of Barnard Castle AC and an Environment Agency fishing licence.

Anglers must also bring their own rods and tackle as none is provided by The Hub.

The ponds are fully accessible and club members are also welcome to use the facilities and cafe inside The Hub.

The angling club’s Jenny Cartwright said with the ponds being open to all fishermen, family and friends were welcome to join members.

Fishing at the TCR Hub ponds costs £6 per day for adults and £3 for children.

Anyone planning to fish at the ponds is recommended to contact The Hub a couple of days in advance to ensure not other activities are booked.

There is no fishing when the ponds are used for kayaking or canoe sessions.

To check dates, contact the centre on 01833 690150.

Opening times are Monday to Thursday 9am to€“ 9pm; Friday 9am to 5pm; Saturday 9am to 3pm. Fishing may be available on Sundays, when the centre is otherwise closed – check with The Hub for details.

Meanwhile, Barnard Castle Angling Club is also looking to hold fishing lessons and competitions for young anglers next year.
