A PHOTOGRAPHIC competition to create a Christmas card for Barnard Castle is being launched by the Teesdale Mercury and the town council.
Each year the mayor sends cards on behalf of the town to other places in County Durham and North Yorkshire and to a selection of local businesses, organisations and individuals.
This year, members of the public are being asked to send in their festive photos to be used for the cards with the theme: “What I love about Barney”.
The competition is open to anyone (non-professionals) of any age and two winning photographs will be selected, each with the winner’s name on the reverse.
Each winner will be presented by the mayor, Cllr Sandra Moorhouse, with a framed copy of their card at the town council’s Christmas tree lighting event on December 1, along with a pack of 20 cards for their own use.
Entries are be submitted by Wednesday, November 15, to Barnard Castle Town Council, Woodleigh, Flatts Road, Barnard Castle, DL12 8AA.
Electronic files should be submitted as a Jpeg at least 1,600 x 1,200 (2MPix). Entries can be submitted electronically to clerk@barnardcastle
towncouncil.gov.uk or in any format capable of being scanned and reproduced on white card. Portrait or landscape pictures will be accepted. The image on the finished cards will be reproduced at A5 size and may be cropped.
Submitted entries will be shortlisted by the town mayor along with the editor of the Teesdale Mercury, Trevor Brookes. The winning entries will then be selected by the mayor.
Yvette Farren, services officer at the town council, said: “It’s such a lovely thing for the town to get involved in and the lucky two winners will get their design and name on Barnard Castle’s official Christmas card for 2017.
“Good luck to everyone – let’s show everyone just how beautiful and festive our town can be.”
