CHILDREN at a Barnard Castle primary school have begun a project which they hope will take root and grow for years to come.
Swifts class of years three and four at St Mary’s RC Primary worked with artist Lindsey Starborn to create ceramic poppies ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day.
All 28 children in the class made a poppy, which has been planted outside the school entrance.
Teacher Lesley Box said: “Lindsey came in and worked with the children as part of the project, which links in with our Remembrance activities.
“It is something which, as a school, we are hoping to make an annual event so the poppy garden will grow.
“Every pupil in the class made a poppy – they are all individual,” she said.
