PUPILS from Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School voted to crown Sophie Watson as this year’s carnival queen.
Joining Sophie as part of the carnival parade entourage on Saturday, June 10, will be retiring queen Jessica Turner, herald Thomas Newcombe, queen’s attendants Ella Alderson and Holly Whittle, flower girls Daisy Hall and Grace Simpson, crown bearer Edward Sayer and pages Elliot Hutchinson and Callum Dent.
Other plans for the carnival weekend are now being finalised. The theme for the fancy dress is TV and film.
The action packed weekend kicks off with a fun family football match for adults and children aged nine years and older.
This will take place on Friday, June 9, on the school field. Players should arrive at 5.45pm, with kick off at 6pm. All players need to wear shin pads.
On Saturday, June 10, the parade will be led by the Teesside-based Rhythm Train Samba Band.
After judging of the fancy dress, there will be more fun on the school field, including bouncy castles, side stalls, games, music from Barnard Castle Band and family entertainment provided by Pete White’s Suitcase Circus.
He will keep audiences on the edge of their seats with his unique blend of comedy, juggling and magic.
On Saturday evening, in the village hall from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, there will be a family games night with a disco.
The annual family sports including the hugely popular welly wanging contest, will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, June 11. It will conclude with the draw of the annual carnival raffle .
Further timings and information will be available nearer the time from committee members.
The committee is making a plea for volunteers who can help out on the Saturday or Sunday. Anyone with an hour or two to spare should contact Mike Bettison, Rosie Bettison, Graham Henley, Tracy Luck, Lynn Todhunter, Ellise Whittle, Janet Williams or Jason Williams.
