CHILDREN from five primary schools sang their hearts out to launch the inaugural Teesdale Community Music Festival.
Some 90 pupils from Green Lane, St Mary’s Ingleton, Staindrop and Cotherstone joined together at St Mary’s Church, in Barnard Castle, on Friday evening. They had been practising classic songs such as Consider Yourself, from Oliver, and The Bare Necessities, from the Jungle Book, but hadn’t performed as a group before. But any worries they might have had disappeared with a stellar and fun-packed show watched by parents and teachers.
The event kicked off a weekend-long music festival that included a song composition workshop, visits to care homes and a celebration concert featuring Barnard Castle Brass Band, community choir No Added Sugar and folk group Cream Tees on Saturday night.
The main organiser, Annette Butters, said: “It’s all about celebrating music and getting people together.”
