BUILDERS merchants Simpson and Allinson are helping to keep the popular Thorpe Light Railway on track.
The Barnard Castle-based company presented £100 to the Friends of the Thorpe Light Railway.
The friends group is a not for profit organisation dedicated to restoring the last 15 inch gauge miniature railway in County Durham.
Although well designed by professional railway contractors in 1971, after 35 years of use and having lain idle for nearly ten years, time has taken its toll on the original track, rolling stock and infrastructure. The Friends have already raised funds to restore the tunnel, locomotive and carriages.
Fundraising is currently underway to carry out track repairs, improve drainage and lay sidings for a new engine shed.
To find out more about supporting the railway go to www.thorpelightrailway.co.uk or head along to the next running day on Sunday, June 18.
