THE Darlington and District Cricket League enjoyed a successful 2017 season with few fixtures conceded and little by way of disciplinary problems.
Reviewing the season, president Brian Jones said more than 300 players were taking to the field each Saturday to enjoy a game.
“We organise 15 league fixtures each Saturday and only 11 of the 330 league games were conceded,” he told the league's annual meeting.
“There were few disciplinary matters and those which did happen were addressed swiftly.”
Mr Jones, who turns out for Aldbrough St John, said he was sad to see Rockliffe Park resign from the league as the club moved fully into the NYSD set-up.
However, he said the Darlington and District League still plans to hold the final of the Cec Leece Trophy at Rockliffe Park, thus maintaining the link.
Mr Jones paid tribute to Cliffe CC's Richard Mallender, who stood down as vice-president, describing him as an “enthusiastic officer”.
No nominations were put forward to replace Mr Mallender and Mr Jones said he would be looking to clubs for suggestions.
He also noted the sad passing of Haughton CC stalwart Gilbert Bage, who died earlier in the year.
“He was a great friend and supporter of the league,” said Mr Jones.
