CHILDREN were enchanted and enthralled at the annual Christingle service in Barnard Castle on Sunday evening.
They sang classic festive songs such as Little Donkey, did the actions, and took part in celebrations at the front of the church before their proud families.
But the magic happened when the Christingles – made from an orange decorated with red tape, sweets and a candle – were lit and the lights dimmed. The service was taken by Revd Canon Alec Harding.
Christingle was created with children in mind and all proceeds were given The Children’s Society.
Although Christingles have been taking place in England for nearly 50 years, the idea of the began in Germany in 1747.
