A FORMER solicitor has penned his second festive tune in as many years with some help from a few friends.
Startforth’s David Sparrow released My Only Saviour last year for West Auckland Vineyard Church to a reception of more than 2,000 views on Youtube.
Now the churchgoer has written his second song, Christmas Glory, released with the help of musical congregation members.
The 69-year-old said this year’s offering proved a challenge in tracking down the right musicians.
“It’s trying to find the people prepared to give up the time to practise and record them,” he said. “For instance, one problem we have is we might need a tenor or baritone saxophone and finding someone like that is difficult.”
Mr Sparrow has been writing songs for 40 years but it’s only in the past three that he has brought them to fruition with the help of Max Moore. He added: “Max wrote some words for me with some Bible verses set to music. I had no idea what would come out of it.”
With the help of his father’s 20-year-old keyboard, Mr Sparrow created this year’s tune at home before it was recorded in Darlington.
