PEOPLE are being urged to take part in a weekend of action to help clean up the banks of the River Tees and its tributaries.
The Tees Rivers Trust is co-ordinating a catchment wide clean-up.
Ben Lamb, from the trust, said: “Following on from the success of the Great Skerne Scour day in October, we are aiming to run riverside litter collection weekends throughout 2017 and hopefully beyond.”
The first of these campaign weekends starts on Friday, March 31, over the weekend to April 2.
“We would like to mobilise a volunteer troop from all our local partners including friends groups, local businesses and community groups.”

Barnard Castle town councillor Roger Peat is organising volunteers to walk the paths either side of the river from Egglestone Abbey bridge to the site of the old viaduct, Deepdale and Percy Beck on Saturday, April 1, starting at 10am from the lower Demesnes. Contact him on 01833 631820 to join.
Meanwhile, the town council is holding its annual litter pick around Barnard Castle on Saturday, March 11, meeting on Scar Top at 10am.
