CHILDREN at Cotherstone School postponed their World Book Day activities 24 hours so they could combine it with a truly wild treat.
The school was visited by Jay Gunn, of Jay’s Animal Encounters, who brought a menagerie of animals including spiders, snakes, scorpions and various small furry mammals for the children to meet, on Friday last week.
Mr Gunn, who worked at Edinburgh Zoo before starting his own animal education business, gave the pupils an insight into the lives of the animals and insects.
Some of the more daring youngsters had scorpions placed on their wrists and held a tarantula.
Headteacher Dr Rebecca Jellis led the way by carrying a python around her shoulders.
The animal encounters were subsidised by the Friends of Cotherstone Primary School group.
As well as dressing up for World Book Day, pupils also created shoebox scenes from their favourite books including Mathilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Black Beauty and The Borrowers.
