Rhythm and blues to raise cash for Barnard Castle church

A FUNDRAISING concert has been organised by the Friends of St Mary’s Church, Barnard Castle, later this week.
An Evening of Rhythm and Blues will be staged in the Parish Hall, in Newgate, at 7.30pm on Friday, March 24, featuring local five-piece band The Corner Boys.
The band, which includes lead guitarist John Rhodes and saxophonist Pat Baldwin, from Startforth, and retired Barnard Castle solicitor John Roberts on drums, will be joined by Steve Warren, from Durham, on vocals and Gerard Whelpdale, from Crook, on bass guitar.
They will be playing blues from the likes of Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, BB King and Jimmy Reed as well as rock and roll classics from Chuck Berry and Bill Haley. The show will also feature archive film clips of Chicago and New York together with vintage comedy clips from Laurel and Hardy.
