TEESDALE has taken a step closer to having its own commercially-brewed beer following the delivery of new kit at a start up brewery.
Master brewer Danny McColl, from Middleton-in-Teesdale, launched his fledgling business at the Randolph Industrial Estate, in Evenwood, earlier this year and with the arrival of the equipment last week hopes to produce his first beers in April. A mash tun, copper, heat extractor and four fermentation vessels arrived at the brewery.
Mr McColl said: “Yesterday was brilliant. I was grinning all day. Now it is physically there, it is very exciting. The start date is visible now.
“I feel we are moving towards brewing and selling beers instead of just starting a business.”
The plan is to start with four different beers, including golden ale, best bitter, pale ale and IPA, and expand from there.
The fermentation vessels can each hold 16,500 litres of beer which Mr McColl wants to sell to pubs in and around Teesdale.
Mr McColl has recruited marketing officer Ollie Dootson to sign up landlords in the area, and once the brewery starts generating income he hopes to take on an apprentice brewer and two more staff members.
He said: “As soon as we can afford it, we will be looking to take on more staff.”
