A MAN is in hospital after being struck by a car in West Auckland.
The 20-year-old sustained serious injuries in the collision on Staindrop Road which happened just before 7pm on Tuesday, February 28. The vehicle involved was a silver Ford Transit van which left the scene but was recovered a short time later in Bishop Auckland.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. His condition is described as critical but stable.
Officers have now arrested two men in connection with the incident.
DS Peter Lonsdale of Durham Constabulary said: "This was a very shocking incident for the victim who has suffered extremely serious injuries but due to medical treatment is in a stable condition. We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident and are asking them to contact us as soon as possible.”
Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 382 of February 28.
