A YOUTH soul band that folded about two years ago has been reborn.
Barnard Castle’s Friday Night Soul Band called it a day two years ago when most of its young members left for university but now it is being revived at The Hub.
As many as 15 musicians were part of the band in its heyday and after only two weeks in existence the new band is well on its way to reaching those heights again.
Friday Night Soul Band is being led by Barnard Castle Brass band member Rosie Bradford and meets every Friday at 5pm.
Ms Bradford said anyone under the age of 21 is welcome to join up. She said: “If you play brass, woodwind, piano, drums or brass, or like to sing and want to play funky music that makes you feel good, come and join. You don’t need to read music, you just need a bit of rhythm.”
In the first week the band played Happy Birthday and plans are for members to learn Rag 'n' Bone Man’s popular Human in the near future. Ms Bradford said: “You can turn any song into a soul song really.”
Currently the band has a diverse range of musicians of various ages. The youngest is nine.
One of those who singed up is 15-year-old Sam Arundel who has been playing the guitar for about two years.
He said: “My guitar teacher recommended it and I thought it would be great to be in a band.”
He added that although he prefers rock, the band
gave him an opportunity to broaden his horizons. For more information contact The Hub on 01833 690150.
