YOUNGSTERS in Barnard Castle are taking time out to learn how to hop, jump and be free in a series of new yoga sessions.
Yoga Bunnies visited Kirklands Day Nursery to help the children develop more than their flexibility.
Qualified children’s yoga instructor Sarah Hodgson, from Eggleston, is the driving force behind the new sessions. With the help of storytelling, Yoga Bunnies aims to improve confidence and imagination as well as social skills.
Ms Hodgson, who has been practising yoga for the past 18 years, said: “I really wanted my children to get into a yoga class too. The benefits of children doing yoga are extensive. It gives them some time out. It is great for teamwork and encouraging support. It is also a self-confidence builder. The relaxation element of the class is really important too.
Nursery owner Janice Duffy-McGhie said: “We go swimming and we do ballet but this is completely new. It is good for concentration, listening and developing the children’s physical abilities. It also introduces mindfulness at a young age.” To find out more about Yoga Bunnies contact 07402 221503.
