TICKETS for the visit of one of the UK’s biggest comedy stars to Barnard Castle sold out in less than three hours on Friday.
Liverpudlian funnyman John Bishop will perform three shows at The Witham as part of a run of warm up gigs for his fifth nationwide arena tour.
Three years after his last tour, he will bring his brand new show, Winging It, to the Teesdale venue on Wednesday, April 19, Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21.
John Bishop's last tour, Supersonic, was seen by more than half a million people, and won huge critical acclaim.
Promoter Peter Dixon said the three Barney shows would give fans a rare chance to catch the comedian in a more intimate venue before he heads to arenas in the winter.
The opening night will also be the 100th show organised by Barnard Castle-based Funny Way To Be Comedy Club.
Almost seven years since putting on its very first gig, the club has brought the biggest names and best talent in comedy to Barnard Castle, welcoming the likes of Russell Howard, Russell Kane, Mark Watson, Chris Ramsey, Lee Nelson, Jo Caulfield, Omid Djalili, Josie Long, Stephen K Amos and Jenny Eclair to its stage.
The club has also hosted BBC Radio 4’s Mark Steel's In Town show and become a favourite tour stop for many of the country's best-loved comics.
John Bishop has achieved huge success in television, with a number of his own comedy, entertainment and documentary shows to his name.
Mr Dixon added: “When we started Funny Way To Be Comedy Club, one of the key inspirations was seeing John Bishop playing in a number of small venues.
“In the few short months it took to get the club up and running, John had rocketed to super-stardom, and there seemed little chance that we could bring him to Barnard Castle.
“So of course, we are beyond excited that he has chosen our club.”
With all tickets sold, a returns list is being compiled. Anyone wishing to add their name should contact Mr Dixon via the Funny Way To Be website.
