WITH a squad of 24 signed up, Glaxo Rangers FC coach Andrew Hall admits he’s going to have a difficult job keeping everyone happy.
Rangers, who play at Glaxo’s Manor Farm ground on Harmire Road, Barnard Castle, have made steady progress since being formed three years ago.
Last season, the side finished in the lower half of the Crook and District league second division.
“We made progress last year and we were competitive, but the season fizzled out towards the end,” said Mr Hall.
He is upbeat about prospects for the coming campaign. Midweek training sessions have been introduced and a tough run of pre-season games against first division champions Shildon, Heighington, local rivals Gainford and a mixed Bowes FC team have helped prepare the squad for Saturday’s opener at home to Bishop Auckland Hogans.
Glaxo Rangers boasts one of the youngest groups of players in the league, although the signing of Colin Welsh from Evenwood will add some welcome experience.
In addition to 16 league games, Mr Hall said Rangers would enter as many cups as possible to ensure all members of his large squad were given a chance.
“We hope to build on last season and be competitive in every game. The lads are ready for the challenges ahead.”
This season, Rangers have the support of new sponsor KGB Holdings, who have provided a new kit for the team.
