LIVE music comes to Staindrop’s new-look Scarth Hall this weekend, when County Durham folk legend Jez Lowe performs on Saturday, November 5.
As a result of the hall’s Lottery-funded upgrade, this is the first in a series of music and stage shows planned for the coming weeks and months.
Award-winning Jez Lowe was due to have played at the Scarth Hall as part of this year’s music and beer festival, but the show was put on hold due to the work taking place on the hall.
Having been playing abroad, he was able to fit in a date for Scarth Hall on his return to the UK.
Support on the night will come from the ever-popular John Wrightson Band, who play regularly at Staindrop open mic nights.
Scarth Hall’s Teresa Driscoll said: “Jez was originally booked as a special guest at the annual beer and music festival on the August bank holiday.
“However, due to delays with the refurbishment, the festival was moved back to September 23-25, which meant he was unable to take part.
“So we’re really honoured and delighted to have Jez perform an intimate solo gig at Scarth Hall.”
Tickets for the Jez Lowe show are £8.
There will be more music at the Scarth Hall in December with Jazz in the Village featuring sax and piano duo Ian Miller and Dominic Spencer on Saturday, December 17 – tickets £10 including refreshments. The duo promises an evening of intimate cabaret-style jazz.
Looking ahead to next year, Scarth Hall will welcome Victorian Values, by the Castle Players, on Saturday, February 4.
The hall is now on the
roster of venues for the
Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, with details of those shows to be unveiled soon. Also in the pipeline is a series of comedy nights in conjunction with the Funny Way To Be comedy club.
