AN excellent 31-13 away win at Northern saw Barnard Castle RUFC go top of Durham/Northumberland division one on Saturday.
On the football field, it was a mixed bag of results this weekend.
West Auckland FC had a bad day at the office - losing 5-1 away to Seaham Red Star in the Ebac Northern League.
In the Crook and District League first division, Bowes were held to a 1-1 draw away at Wear Valley, while in the Durham Minor Cup, Evenwood Town lost 4-2 at Billington Town Reserves.
This morning (Sunday) Barnard Castle FC enjoyed a 6-1 win at home to Newton Wycliffe Sports Club in division two of the Wear Valley League, while Gainford held division two leaders Newton Wycliffe Navy Club to a 3-3 draw.
Also in division two, Toft Hill lost by the odd goal in seven at home to Willington Queen's Head.
