BARNARD Castle Town Council plans to spend £2,000 celebrating the 125th anniversary of The Bowes Museum next year.
The cash is included in the council's budget plans for 2017/18.
Cllr Sandra Moorhouse, chairman of the town’s partnership committee, said the idea was to work with the museum on a special event.
“The Bowes Museum is something a lot of other town councils would like to have in their town,” she said.
Pointing to the success of last year’s Yves Saint Laurent exhibition and this year’s popular Shoes: Pleasure and Pain summer display, she told colleagues on the resources committee: “The museum has brought an awful lot of trade into the town.
“If we do work with them to do a special event, we would do something to bring in tourists.”
Councillors were told if agreed, the £2,000 would be a one-off.
It was unanimously agreed to include the cash in next year’s budget plans.
