A charitable Teesdale accountancy team have passed the £60,000 milestone with their fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK.
Butler and Gee Accountants, in Barnard Castle, presented Teesdale Cancer Research UK committee members with yet another cheque last week – this time for £11,033.
The record amount was raised through the team’s seventh charity ball, which they organise annually for the deserving cause.
More than 150 people attended this year’s black tie event at Lartington Hall, just outside Barnard Castle, in June.
Director Chris Butler said: “I would like to thank all of our guests and clients who made donations to help us achieve a terrific sum. It is a record total for one night. We are really proud of it.
“The owners of Lartington Hall, John and Shona, were really supportive. They pulled out all of the stops.”
Singer Zoe Birkett performed a special set at the event backed by north-east band ToneRiders.
Auction lots included an exclusive overnight stay at Lartington Hall, a Teesdale Gun Club shoot, a hot air balloon ride and a combine harvester driving experience.
Butler and Gee has raised more than £60,000 for the Teesdale Cancer Research UK branch during the past seven years.
Treasurer Brenda Thwaites said: “We really appreciate Butler and Gee’s support and we would like to thank them for doing it. It’s awesome.”
Mr Butler added: “We all know people who have been diagnosed with cancer.
“Back when we started out a couple of close family members needed treatment.
“So many people are affected by cancer.
“The Teesdale Cancer Research committee are such an active and successful group and we wanted to support them.”
The fundraisers will be holding their Christmas fair laster this month. More details nearer the time.
