Show turns spotlight on 'invisible' adults coping with ADHD

A THEATRE show based on the search for a diagnosis of adult attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) is coming to The Witham, in Barnard Castle.
Declaration is performed by comedian and storyteller Sarah Emmott.
She said as a child she was “bouncing off the walls” but never diagnosed with ADHD.
“My current doctor thinks I have ADHD, but adult diagnosis is complex.”
The show is produced by Art with Heart, which has made a name tackling difficult subjects with honesty, warmth and humour, and hope.
Officials say Declaration will open challenge preconceptions surrounding mental health and ADHD.
Venturing into a world often unexplored onstage, Ms Emmott will share her experiences of ADHD and adulthood by combining storytelling, comedy and movement.
She said: “In the media, the images projected of ADHD are of young boys tearing around supermarkets, mums in despair.
“Women and indeed adults with ADHD are almost invisible in popular culture. Declaration will offer a fresh, fun and frank perspective on the ADHD debate.”
The show takes place on Friday, May 19, at 7.30pm and is suitable for ages 14 and older.
Tickets are £10 and £8 concessions from The Witham box office during opening hours or online at www.thewitham.org.uk
