Teenager from Middleton-in-Teesdale in serious condition following collision

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the B6282 between Middleton-in-Teesdale and Eggleston which left a woman with serious injuries.

It happened at 6.15pm yesterday and involved a Renault Clio and a Kia Picanto.

The Clio was travelling towards Barnard Castle when the driver – an 18-year-old woman from Middleton-in-Teesdale – collided with the Kia which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Both drivers were trapped in their cars and were released by County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.

The driver of the Clio was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The 58-year-old driver of the Kia, from Forest-in-Teesdale, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital but is not believed to be seriously injured.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the road policing unit on 101.
