ENTRIES are being invited for an annual golf day which raises thousands of pounds for good causes.
The 17th Barnard Castle Rotary Club Am-Am will be staged at the town’s golf course on Wednesday, June 28.
Teams of four are invited to tee off between 9am and 3pm, competing for a range of prizes. There are men’s, ladies and mixed team competitions.
Rotarian David Yeadon said the annual am-am was a popular date on the calendar.
“In the past we have had as many as 40 teams competing. They come from all over Durham, Northumberland, Cumbria and Yorkshire – some have even travelled 100 miles for the day’s golf,” he said. “We are generous with the handicaps so people can enjoy a competitive game whatever their standard.”
Mr Yeadon said this year’s event was being organised by Ross Law, who takes over as president of Barnard Castle Rotary Club in July and will also be the seniors captain at the golf club.
“There are plenty of prizes and there is always a tombola – the shops are always very generous and we do appreciate it.”
The entry fee for the event is £100 per team of four. This covers the cost of the day’s gold, plus prizes. The format is an 18-hole stableford and there are also prizes for nearest the pin, longest drive, hidden holes and, for the first time in several years, there will be a putting contest.
