A FLOURISHING Teesdale team have taken their first steps into hard-ball cricket.
A Teesdale and District Girls side took on Corbridge Cricket Club in the under 13s Lady Taverners Competition.
The team of nine had a tough test against an established side going down to a heavy loss, but team coach John Ashworth said the girls had made big strides since taking to the game.
He said: “This was our first venture into hard ball cricket and we were up against a very good Corbridge girls team. It was a great start – they all enjoyed the game and everyone who wanted a bowl got one.”
More than 20 girls have regularly attended weekly training sessions on Wednesday afternoons around the dale.
Mr Ashworth thanked Middleton-in-Teesdale Cricket Club for hosting the fixture. The under 15s will head over to Weardale to take on Corbridge in the coming weeks.
