Parish council happy to keep things 'ticking over' in Cockfield

RESIDENTS in Cockfield will pay £16,735 towards the cost of the village’s parish council in the next financial year.
Parish council members agreed to increase the precept by £216.25 due to a cut in the grant the group receives.
Parish clerk Phil Howard said this would mean a band D council tax payer would see an increase of just 6p on their bill – from £42.12 to £42.18.
The council’s total budget, including its grant for 2017/18, will be £19,499.
This will be used to pay for a number of services, such as maintaining the Pauline Charlton Sports Pavilion and recreation area, the children’s play area, skateboard park and arranging for the village green grass cutting in the summer.
The parish council’s December meeting was told members were keen to maintain their efforts to keep any rise as low as possible.
Parish council chairwoman Cllr Brenda Singleton said: “This keeps things nicely ticking over.”
