LOCAL favourites The Corner Boys will play a return gig at Bowes and Gilmonby Village Hall on Thursday, September 28.
The five piece rhythm and blues band play music by the likes of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and other bluesmen who started out on the street corners of Chicago and the Mississippi Delta.
In addition they will also be performing classic rock and roll and other material from artists including Chuck Berry and Bill Haley.
The band was formed four years ago by John Rhodes, from Startforth, (lead guitar) and Steve Warren, from Durham, (vocals, rhythm guitar) who were classmates at Barnard Castle Grammar School in the 1960s. The line up also now includes Pat Baldwin (saxophone) and John Roberts, (drums) from Barnard Castle, and Gerard Whelpdale (bass) from High Grange, near Crook.
The doors and bar open at 7pm, with the show at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door are £10, concessions £9 and students £5
Village hall promoter Graham Henley said: “The Corner Boys played here last year and it was one of our best ever nights. Their first set was a fantastic selection of the blues, their second more R&B based, and that’s when the dancing started. I have to congratulate the band, not just for the way they played, but for a really well put together programme. We are all looking forward to welcoming them back.”
