THE NFU in Barnard Castle has welcomed a new business manager and assistant agent to the office.
Caroline Baker will see to the are with day-to-day running of the office and help the farming and rural community with insurance, pension and risk management.
The 26-year-old comes to the with a wealth of experience having served as a locum agency manager at a host of NFU Mutual branches across the North East.
Having spent most of her life in Darlington and currently living on her family farm at Hamsterley. She says she has a deep affection for Teesdale.
She added: “It is like coming home. I love the landscape – it is a beautiful place. It is such a diverse landscape which brings in different characters and business. The town has a buzz to it. It is popular, but not overrun with tourists. It is a good balance.”
The former Queen Elizabeth College sixth former chose to pursue her passion for horses instead of heading off to university immediately.
Ms Baker added: “I went to work with horses and took a gap year.
“I fell off and basically smashed my foot to pieces. I was airlifted by the wonderful Great North Air Ambulance Service. After that I decided horses would just be a hobby.”
It was then that she secured a post as a customer support advisor at NFU Mutual’s Sedgefield office and was later promoted to sales advisor followed by farm account manager. She has been heavily involved with Stockton Young Farmers’ Club serving as chairman and treasurer and also serving on the national association, undertaking marketing and events.
It was through the young farmers’ group that she met her “other half” David Coatsworth and moved to Hamsterley where the family farm mixed ewes and stock cattle. On the arable side they grow feed and silage.
