The funnyman is returning to the stage with a solo show for the first time in three years, and the Funny Way To Be Comedy club is hosting his opening show of a UK tour on September 23.
He is promising a “joyous romp through his favourite artists and strangest scientific ideas, weaving from the work of Stanley Spencer to Niels Bohr” in his new show, called Pragmatic Insanity.
Fresh from a record-breaking 70-date arena tour with Professor Brian Cox, which concluded a show at Wembley Arena, he examines why we believe we see what we see and why we believe what we believe in a show packed with ideas about creativity in science and art.
The winner of The Francis Crick Science Journalism Award, three Chortle gongs and the Time Out Outstanding Contribution to Comedy award, Robin Ince also received a prestigious Sony Gold and Rose d’Or for his work with Prof Cox on their BBC Radio 4 series Infinite Monkey Cage.
He began his comedy career in 1990, performing at Eddie Izzard’s venue at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He later appeared in the Fringe show Rubbernecker, alongside Stephen Merchant, Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais going on to open for the star of The Office on his 2004 and 2007 tours.
As well as comedy, he has enjoyed popularity as an author and podcaster, in addition to running the popular new material night The Book Club, which spawned a full UK tour in 2006, and a book in 2010.
He is the also creator and co-host of the podcast Robin and Josie’s Book Shambles, which attracts more than 100,000 hits a month, as well as the weekly music podcast with Michael Legge, Vitriola, which mixes nonsense, arguments and discussions on the latest music releases.
He is also a regular contributor to TV and radio programmes, including Just a Minute, Mock the Week, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
