Taekwondo teenagers make the grade

THREE Teesdale taekwondo fighters have successfully passed black belt gradings.
Cameron Spencer, 16, and Joseph Kinsley, 17, from Baek Ho Taekwondo, reached their fourth dan black belt while 14-year-old Georgina Hayes achieved her first poom. The current instructor for the group that practises at Teesdale Leisure Centre, Jennie Lee, said the young fighters showed real determination and dedication to their sport.
She added: “I am extremely proud of all the students. They are all excellent role models and brilliant at helping and supporting the class.”
Cameron has been with the club for 11 years after starting at the age of five with Baek Ho’s Tiny Tigers group under the watchful eye of instructor Master Bryan Whiley. Cameron said: “There are no words. I didn’t think I would become a fourth dan by the time I was 16.”
Equally thrilled with her achievement was Georgina who took up the sport three years ago. Her poom grading will convert to a black belt when she turns 15.
She said: “I remember starting and standing at the back of the class and looking at the front wondering how many years before I could get there.”  For more information about joining the taekwondo class contact Jennie Lee on 07837 697974 or email jennielee100
