Festive fun as Barnard Castle prepares to switch on Christmas tree lights

WITH Christmas just around the corner, Barnard Castle Town Council’s Christmas extravaganza will take place on Friday, December 2, with free festive fun for all the family.
At 3pm there will be stalls and a raffle for the mayor’s charity in Dawson Room, Woodleigh, near Scar Top.
Festivities commence at 4pm with a giant snow globe in the grounds of Woodleigh.
Santa’s sleigh will be in-situ and from 5.30pm, for a small donation, seasonal treats will be served outside Woodleigh, including roast chestnuts, shortbread, mince pies and mulled wine.
For younger visitors, there are two storytelling sessions at 4pm and 5pm in the Dawson Room, Woodleigh.
The Witham has loaned its storytelling chair for the event.
From 5pm Barnard Castle Band will play Christmas Carols.
At 6pm, a festive lights show organised by Dickens in Teesdale will be followed by the arrival of Santa, prior to the switching-on of the tree lights at 6.30pm.
The town’s traditional Christmas tree has, once again, been donated by Lord Barnard and Raby Estates.
Santa will be resident in his grotto in the Methodist Church, with face-painting, balloon modelling and craft activities. Seasonal refreshments are available in the Church Hall for a small charge.
