A SPRING GARDENS student has received a top award for her designs.
Katie-Anna Rose Vizor graduated from the Heriot Watt University Edinburgh, School of Textile and Design, with a degree in fashion technology on June 16 and in so doing received the award from the Incorporation of Bonnetmakers and Dyers of Edinburgh.
Her final collection of children’s clothing which she called Baby Knows Best was inspired by the brand Caramel, and earned her the award for the most innovative use of textile and design practice.
The collection carries on from her Mama Knows Best theme from last year.
He mother, Elaine, said: “The clothing collection is innovative in that it is reversible, for durability and change, and it is unisex or gender neutral as the term is today.
“It has lots of features which have developed through her research with parents and toddlers, to find out what the needs are for clothing in the age range three to five years.
“The research informed her decisions on fastenings and openings and fabric and
design, and so much
more which she can tell you about.”
The student studied textiles and art A-Levels at St John’s RC Comprehensive School, in Bishop Auckland, where she also obtained a double distinction in BTEC business studies.
She did a photoshoot of local children modelling her designs in her mother’s garden.
The awards event for the bonnetmakers prize will be in Edinburgh later this year.
