A TALENTED young rider has booked her place at three prestigious equestrian events.
Maddy Schaible, 11, completed the treble of qualifying for the Burleigh Horse Trials, the Royal International and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) at two events last month.
The Headlam youngster, who is in her final few weeks at Ingleton Primary School, has had a decorated year at events and shows the length of breadth of the country.
She qualified for HOYS at an event in Cheshire before confirming a place at Burleigh Horse Trials over the June 24 weekend.
“There are other shows leading up to it to practice in the lead up,” said Maddy.
“I have the Royal International at the end of the month which has the same classes as HOYS.
“I’ve enjoyed seeing how far up I can get and seeing how far I’ve come since I was tiny.”
Maddy began competing when she was aged three on her pony to follow in the
footsteps on her older sisters and her mum, Nicola Schaible.
She was on top form last year as the only primary school youngster to qualify in the individual section of the National Schools Equestrian Association championships.
Her most recent success came on 14-year-old Lucy, who has been in the Schiable family since Maddy was born.
Maddy paid tribute to her mum for driving her to all the events and revealed she was looking forward to her next challenge.
“Burleigh is really good – we went last year and it was good fun,” added Maddy.
“Jumping in general is my favourite – I am not very good at remembering the dressage steps and drilling them into my head.”
Headteacher at Ingleton Primary School Judith Pressley said Maddy was a talented all-round sportsperson.
She added: “We have been following her through her career already and I think it’s absolutely marvellous. We are so proud of her.”
Maddy will compete at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead later this month.
