PUPILS in Butterknowle experienced democracy in action during a visit from their re-elected MP.
MP Helen Goodman dropped by at Butterknowle Primary School to speak to the children about her role.
She also answered questions from the youngsters about matters that are important to them.
Questions included what made you want to be an MP? How many hours do you work? What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? What is your favourite animal? The children also asked about the possibility of having a skate park in the village.
Ms Goodman’s visit followed a school trip to Parliament before the snap election.
Headteacher Tessa Fenoughty said: “Today’s visit finishes everything off and raises the profile of how our country is run. It is democracy in action and this brings it to life for the children. Helen represents our constituency therefore she is an important person who the children need to know about.
“Their questions were super. They have really engaged in the process and it has brought to life the purpose of our pupil council.”
