Artist's invitation to help with her latest project at Barnard Castle designer makers market

VISITORS to a two-day market are being invited to take part in a young artist's latest project.
Rachel Fraser is creating a piece of artwork using only orange thread at the Designer Makers Market at The Witham, in Barnard Castle on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.
The 23-year-old says the project explores topical issues of what it means to be a woman in today's society, with orange being widely seen as a colour associated with criminals.
Participants can contribute anything from a single stitch to as much as they want towards the finished work.
If people can't sew but want to take part, Ms Fraser will be on hand to teach.
The 23-year-old, from Catterick Garrison, is currently studying for a BA (Hons) textile and surface design degree at Cleveland College of Art and Design, in Hartlepool.
She came to the attention of designer makers market organiser Kathryn Guy after receiving recognition for an exhibition at the Green Howards Museum, in Richmond.
Ms Fraser created new work and curated the exhibition Tommy Bodkins: military materials then and now, which ran from February until the end of March.
Some of her work shown the exhibition will be on view to visitors to the market.
Ms Fraser will take her place alongside a roster of more than 25 established artisans at the market.
The event is open from 10am to 4pm on both days. Admission is free but a donation towards St Teresa’s Hospice would be appreciated.
Details of those taking part in the market are available at www.designermakersmarket.co.uk
