Facials will add fizz to Maia Mouse fundraiser

AN evening filled with facials and prosecco is being in held in Evenwood to raise money for children with life-limiting conditions.
Gabrielle Haynes Beauty Therapy is hosting an open evening to launch Neal’s Yard Facials at the salon above Apple Hair on Swan Street.
The event on Wednesday, April 5, is being organised in aid of the Maia Mouse Foundation which is due to launch next month.
Joe and Gemma Baum, originally from Barnard Castle, have set up the foundation, named after their daughter Maia Olivia.
Maia was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer of the central nervous system in January 2016. Sadly, she passed away four months later aged 11 months.
The charity, which will be officially launched on April 30, will help families of children living with life-limiting conditions by providing grants to allow them to enjoy trips and experiences they may not otherwise have had.
Beauty therapist and mum-of-one Ms Haynes, who is originally from Woodland, is a friend of the couple.
She said: “I have a little boy who is nine months old. I can’t imagine what they are going through.
“I think it is a very worthwhile cause and if I can help them I will.
“I do everything from manicures to massages and now I have started to do facials. Neal’s Yard is one of the biggest beauty brands in the country. They do skincare for everyone which is organic and natural. I know how good the treatments are and I know they work. They are really good for your skin.”
The open night starts at 6pm and will include a 30-minute booster facial demonstration. There will also be a raffle and various stalls from local suppliers including Kacao Chocolatiers and Renné Jewellery which are both based near Scotch Corner. Prosecco and Kacao chocolates will also be served upon arrival.
Ms Haynes, who was Saks Beauty apprentice of the year in 2014, said: “I don’t always feel people know what a facial is so the demonstration will allow people to see exactly how the products work and what they do. There will also be products out for people to try.
“I would like to thank everyone who has donated prizes for the raffle. Everyone has been so kind.”
Anyone who books a facial on the night will receive £10 off their treatment.
The Maia Mouse Foundation will be launched with a sponsored walk in Hawes followed by a charity launch party at the Jersey Farm Hotel, in Barnard Castle, on April 30. Tickets for the event are £20 and include food, DJ and live music.
