Cuppa and a cake to help Chris reach £1million by Christmas

A GROUP of sixth formers are helping a Barnard Castle charity fundraiser realise his £1million dream.
Chris Read, founder of A Smile for a Child, is within touching distance of raising the magic million since launching the organisation eight years ago.
In that time, A Smile for a Child has helped hundreds of disadvantaged and disabled children enjoy sport.
Mr Read has raised more than £950,000 to date and he hopes to reach the £1million mark by Christmas.
To help, six teenagers from Teesdale School’s sixth form are planing a coffee morning and cake sale on Tuesday, December 13.
They decided to hold the event having been buoyed by the success of a coffee morning they were involved in at the school which raised £400. Having volunteered to help out with the Macmillan fundraiser, they decided to carry on “as we realised it was a really good experience to do”.
The group plans to hold more fundraising activities in the future and hope it will inspire more of their fellow students to get involved.
Jay Dean, 16, said: “This is a local charity, close to home and anything we can do to help would be amazing.”
