Vandals attacked Gainford play area for a second time

VANDALS have targeted a play area in Gainford for the second time in a matter of months.
Equipment at Gainford Adventure Play Area has been left damaged and out of use yet again after vandals attempted to dismantle one of the picnic benches.
Speaking at October’s Gainford and Langton Parish Council meeting, clerk Martin Clark said: “The new bench that we put into GAP has been vandalised.
“They have got under it and kicked the pieces out.
“They really are hard to dismantle too. Someone has gone in overnight and done it.”
The damage is believed to have been done some time during the weekend of October 1 and 2.
The equipment which has been damaged cost £1,123.20. Back in June new legs had to be provided for the climbing frame by the manufacturer, Eversheds, who did so free of charge.
Repair work was carried out by Paul Ryman back in the summer but this time repairs will have to be made by the manufacturer.
Cllr Lisa Johnstone said: “Sadly the equipment is out of commission which is such a shame for the children of Gainford and their parents.”
Chairman of the parish council Simon Platten said: “It might be the parish council who are spending the money but the funds come from the community.”
