No need to be alone in Barnard Castle this Christmas Day

SELFLESS organisers of a Christmas day feast are looking for more volunteers and visitors to enjoy their cooking.

Volunteers from Barnard Castle Meet Committee will host a three-course meal on December 25 at the TCR Hub on Shaw Bank, on the edge of town.

The lunch has welcomed dozens of dale folk in the past and organiser Shona Robinson hoped the event’s fourth year would prove to be its biggest yet.

She said: “We had a really good turnout last year and St Mary’s looked absolutely beautiful.

They’d all worked very hard dressing the room.

“We are looking for more volunteers to help prepare on the day itself – anybody can come and there is no criteria to attend.”

Sherry and mince pies will be served from 11.30am with the main Christmas lunch expected at about 12.30pm.

Two talented youngsters performed at St Mary’s last year and Ms Robinson said harpist Joshua Greenwell and his sister Seren would be returning for a repeat performance. Ms Robinson added: “They were absolutely fantastic last year and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

“We also have our resident entertainments manager, Ben Pearson, returning with Play Your Cards Right.”

Ms Robinson also thanked St Mary’s Parish Hall for hosting the 2016 event and revealed transport would be put on by the committee for those who need it.

She added: “My feeling is nobody need be on their own on Christmas Day.

“We would love people to come along and share in the positivity of like-minded people.

“It was just lovely last year and we want people to come along and enjoy themselves – the more, the merrier.”

Entry to the lunch is free and people can turn up on the day, but the organisers would prefer that people booked.

To book a spot or offer your services, phone Ms Robinson on 07947 150569 or call in at Oliver Twist’s Sandwich Bar, on Market Place.
