Darlington and District Cricket League AGM: No loss of points for cup concessions

PROPOSALS to deduct league points from clubs which don’t fulfil Darlington and District Cricket League cup fixtures have been thrown out.

Penalties of a £10 fine and points deduction ranging from ten up to 25 points were put forward by Raby Castle CC for clubs which conceded either league cup or Cec Leece Trophy ties.

Steve Caygill, secretary of Raby Castle CC, said the idea was to impress on clubs the importance of the league’s cup competitions.

League president Brian Jones said: “There is no points deduction at the moment but we do have a concern about clubs failing to fulfil cup fixtures.

“Cup fixtures are not something you can opt out of,” he added.

However, in the face of some criticism, the proposal failed to find a seconder and did not progress to a vote.

Another proposal from Raby Castle, that all cup matches in May should start at 6.15pm, also failed to gather enough support.

Although the vote went 19-10 in favour, it just missed out on the two-thirds majority required for the move to be adopted.
