Stage set for new musical theatre classes in Barnard Castle

A TOP arts centre is to offer musical theatre classes to young people next year.
Musician Maddy Sutton and dance teacher Laura Shaw have teamed up to present the classes for young people, aged between eight and 18, at The Witham, in Barnard Castle.
The classes, named Capella Performers, will take place during ten weeks each term with children performing a 20 minute piece at the end of each  term.
Ms Sutton, a first class music graduate from the University of Huddersfield, said: “We hope to build from there to produce bigger performances.”
She added that the classes aimed at building confidence and strength of voice in pupils while also improving versatility and poise in movement.
Ms Shaw, who has some nine years experience as a dance teacher and choreographed The Witham’s flash crowd performance last summer, said most importantly students would have fun and enjoy exploring the world of musical theatre.
Classes will take place each Saturday between 11am and 12.30pm for children aged eight to 12 and from 12.30pm to 2pm for teenagers.
