AN exhibition will offer a unique chance for villagers to sample and showcase the talents on their doorstep.
Whorlton Village Community Association is to celebrate the best its parish has to offer with a potluck supper and array of exhibits on Saturday, January 14.
Open to those from Whorlton, Westwick, Wycliffe and Thorpe, the “Created in Whorlton” show will offer work from villagers Tony Clark, Jane Young and Red Robinaux and others.
Association chairman Rodney Dawson explained why he didn’t want to open the show up to the public completely.
“I was thinking about how to make it a bit different. We could hopefully get more than 100 people so we don’t want to invite all of Teesdale as we wouldn’t be able to cope with it,” he said.
“It's not a case of not having enough wine in the cupboard for everyone – it’s to do with it being a special event for the village and the hamlets around it.
“It’s to show all aspects of creativity in the village at the start of another new year.”
Musicians from the village have also been called in and residents have been encouraged to bring along some of their own work.
Mr Dawson said he would be taking along a couple of his own prints.
He added: “I have lived in the village for 18 months and it has surprised me how many people are creative and seem to do it at a professional or semi-professional level – this kindled the idea.
“The idea was to encourage people to come out of their shell – we thought it would be nice to put them on display.”
A “potluck supper” where guests brings their own sweet or savoury food for the buffet will start at 5pm.
Doors will open to the exhibition earlier in the afternoon and drinks will be provided.
