A FORMER dale sports coach has been sentenced to 24 years in jail for a string of historical sex offences including the rape of a child.

John Regan, of South Road, High Etherley, was sent down at Durham Crown Court this morning (January 4).

The 66-year-old was found guilty of 11 charges back in November involving the abuse of two girls aged nine and 14 in the 1970s.
