More than 100 attend ladies group's big launch in Barnard Castle

A NEW ladies group in Barnard Castle held its inaugral meeting last week and it was declared a soaring success with 120 women attending and 90 signing up.

The launch of Pimms and Needles at The Hub on Thursday night saw woman queuing to join in a huge clothes swap and hear more about the plans that the not-for-profit community interest group has for Barnard Castle.

Pimms and Needles was founded by Charlotte Pyrah and Donna Feeney in 2015.

It already has groups in Hurworth, Darlington and Aycliffe Village and has now branched out to Teesdale.

Ms Pyrah said: “We looked at quite a few venues around Teesdale before choosing the TCR Hub – we feel that it’s a perfect venue for us to host our group in Barnard Castle, as not only is it friendly and in a beautiful location but its practical for parking and access too.”

The night saw the ladies take part in a clothes swap, with plenty of competition for designer pieces such as a Burberry scarf and Ralph Lauren jacket. Entertainment came from the The Doo Wop Dollies and there was a presentation from Ms Pyrah and Ms Feeney. The event closed with a raffle, which was for afternoon tea for two, donated by Bannatyne Hotel, Darlington.

Ms Feeney added: “We always expected that it would be a busy evening, but even we were slighty overhwhelmed by the huge queue.” Membership is now full for six months. To join a waiting list or to find out more, visit pimmsandneedles.co.uk
