Guitarist's Barnard Castle gig before touring Canada

A FINGERPICKING guitarist is stopping off in Teesdale ahead of his upcoming international tour.

Singer songwriter Adrian Nation will be appearing at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, on Saturday, September 16.

Support will come from Andy Yeadon and Moray Nellis before Mr Nation enters the fold.

Acoustic performer Mr Nation heads to Canada this autumn on the back of his new album, with more than dozen gigs booked in Alberta and British Columbia.

Promoter Dave Palmer has brought Mr Nation to Teesdale on returning to the North East.

He spent 28 years working on music festivals and events in Essex before settling in Startforth late last year.

He said: “Adrian is a singer songwriter and an excellent fingerpicking guitar player.

“I have enjoyed music all my life and there is quite a nice music scene going on here.”

Mr Palmer was chairman of the Brightlingsea Free Music Festival when he lived in the South East which attracted musicians across genres from jazz and world music to folk and rock.

Now he wants to bring more musicians to Teesdale and was full of praise for The Witham.

He added: “The Witham is a fantastic venue – in Colchester a concert venue cost between £12million and £14million to build and what they have at The Witham is better than that.

“There was a recently released government report talking about music tourism –Nit said more people are going to see live music but they are going to big festivals.

“I think the government have now recognised smaller venues are a stepping stone to bigger venues – hopefully the government stimulates that.”

If the Adrian Nation gig goes well, Mr Palmer is keen to put on more acts with “local special guests” alongside established musicians.

Tickets for the gig are available from The Witham box office on 01833 631107.
