Darlington and District Cricket League president hails Raby Castle as a 'very fine side' which conquered all

RABY Castle Cricket Club’s unprecedented success has capped off another successful season for the Darlington and District set up, according to league president Brian Jones.

Mr Jones, who turns out for Aldbrough St John, said he was delighted to represent the league when he presented the A division trophy to the club ahead of last Saturday’s home match against Middleton-in-Teesdale.

He noted it was the third time he had presented a trophy to Raby Castle this season – the club also won the A division knock-out cup and the league's Cec Leece Cup.

In addition, the club also won the F B Howell knock-out cup, organised by Cockerton CC, defeating West Park RA in the final.

Mr Jones said: “This team has grown over the last few seasons and is a very fine side.”

He noted it was only the third time in the league’s history that Raby had taken the title – the first was in 1962 and the second on 1990.

Accepting the trophy, skipper Joe Dent congratulated his team.

“It takes some dedication and commitment – it doesn’t just happen. We also have a great pitch to play on. Long may it continue.”
