Man arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after 21-year-old pedestrian from Headlam is killed by car

POLICE have named a pedestrian who died in a collision with a car at the weekend.

Patrick Schaible, 21, from Headlam, was involved in a collision with a Renault Clio at Summerhouses at about 6.40am on Saturday. Mr Schaible was pronounced dead at the scene. The B6279 road was closed for several hours as collision investigators carried out their work.

The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation. Police are appealing for witnesses. People can call 101.
